THE BROMPTON
ORATORY

OUR FOUNDING FATHERS
St Philip’s owes its foundation in 1934 to a request from the Fathers of the Brompton Oratory.

Mr Richard Tibbitts was asked to establish a prep school for boys of families that attended Mass at The Oratory and the first pupils were admitted shortly thereafter at a property approximately half a mile away in South Kensington.

A significant number of pupils remain parishioners of The Oratory to this day and a former St Philip's pupil is an long-standing member of the Oratorian Order; Fr Rupert McHardy serves as the School's chaplain.

Boys of the School are part of The Oratory's sacristy team, and serve at Mass outside school hours, and there is a rich history of pupils singing as part of The Oratory Junior Choir.

Members of the St Philip's community support The Oratory's social and fundraising events such as its annual garden party and programme of cooking and delivering Christmas meals to those most in need.
